It all started in Cape Town. Back in 2008 after studying there and falling in love with the city and people, I was looking for a job that would allow me to move between Germany and South Africa whenever I wanted and have more than 14 days of vacation. My first online job was as a Virtual assistant for a Swiss company. It helped me to quit my job in tourism within 4 months and learn many more skills to work online while getting paid for it. I became location independent overnight. Eventually I quit that job and ended up working in PPC (Pay per Click Marketing) and eCommerce.

Even better, Inspired by Tim Ferris, I was also able to start a successful 4 hour work week style online business. It didn’t make me rich but pays my bills until this day, and it’s given me the freedom to experiment with the location independent lifestyle, travel to places where I wasn’t sure if the internet would be ok, and figure out how to stay productive while travelling the world.

Back in 2014 we started the first Facebook Group for Digital Nomads. The group is still up and running and has now over 55.000 members from all over the world.
